Spring-winter birdsong

Suddenly it’s light in the mornings. The birds have been singing raucously on warmer days, when it’s slightly above freezing (say, 2°C). The ice is thinning at Slussen. It’s vårdvinter — the feeling that spring is coming, despite the fact that we have at least two months of winter left.

Icefall (on Södermälm, 22 February 2012). One of the headlines in the paper this week: number of people killed in the past decade by ice tumbling off of rooftops in the city.
